One of the most remarkable and fascinating features of Beamish is its collections. A policy of unselective collecting pursued in the museum's early years resulted in a wealth of material relating to the regional history being collected. Our Collections Online highlight an ever expanding selection from the vast object collections held at Beamish.

The collections are not limited by date but cover periods from the 1600s until the present day. They include all aspects of social and domestic life, farming and rural life, industrial and town life as well as transport and advertising. Please select from the categories below to begin:

Introduction:
Beamish's collection of Folk Art and Crafts is of international importance. The craft of quilting was strong in the North of England and the museum has some 350 examples of North Country Quilts and Coverlets. A collection of approximately 300 Rag Mats of a variety of types has also been preserved. Regionally made items that include brassware, pottery, and glassware also form an important part of the Folk Art and Craft collections.

An ongoing commitment to collection digitisation will allow the Online Collections to grow.
